Thank you for your interest in our lab! 

There is a high demand for students to join our research group. To have the best probability of joining our group (whether paid or volunteer), please complete the following: 

1. Write a vortex panel code to solve for the inviscid aerodynamics of a NACA 4-digit airfoil. You can find the theory and algorithms to do this in the following:

   • Mechanics of Flight by Warren Phillips, 2nd Edition pages 32-39

   • Lecture videos available here

2. Learn about the EURS program offered through the college of engineering.

3. Visit the lab and talk with at least 3 students currently doing research in the lab.

4. Email Dr. Hunsaker and include the following information:

   • A copy of your code from #1 along with sample solutions from the code.

   • A statement you are aware of the EURS program and whether you qualify to apply for that program.

   • The names of the three students you spoke with in the lab.

At that point, we can set up a time to meet and discuss potential research within the lab. Note that completion of these steps does not guarantee we have an opening for you, but it will put you in line for a potential opening.

The best way to join our group is to begin working as an undergraduate student in the lab prior to graduate school. However, if you have completed your undergraduate degree and are interested in participating as a graduate student, you can still reach out and see if there is an opening. Due to the nature of our funding sources, we can typically hire only US persons to work in the lab. We also periodically have unfunded student graduate projects. Please reach out to Dr. Hunsaker directly with inquiries.
